The annual Living Archaeology Weekend is scheduled for 25-26 September, 2009. The event is held behind the Gladie Learning Center, just a few minutes away from our cabin.

Have you always wondered exactly what life was like in Kentucky thousands of years ago? If you have, you can find out at the Red River Gorge during the Living Archaeology Weekend. See Kentucky's ancient past come alive as Native Americans and others show the way prehistoric cultures lived day to day.

The events are all held on the banks of the Red River, similar in location to the sites originally inhabited by those first people to live in Kentucky. This entertaining, outdoor program of activities is planned to raise an awareness of the technologies that Native Americans used in the area, and the appreciation and protection of Kentucky's delicate archaeological treasures.

• Native Fire Building
• Baskets and Weaving
• Pottery Making
• Hide Tanning
• Stone Axes and Celts
• Flint Knapping
• Cattail Mats
• Blowguns and Darts

The events on Saturday are open to the general public and are free.
